Day 1: DPS Teams Start in Flair
The 12th
edition of the Sundeep Batavia Memorial International Inter-school
Tournament for Cricket under 12 boys, Basketball under 18 boys & girls
and Table Tennis under 16 & 18 years boys and girls was officially
inaugurated on 28th October2015.
A total of 22 schools are taking part including
the international participants DPS Bangalore, Chettinad Vidyashram
Chennai and DPS Kuwait along with top teams from the UAE in this mega
extravaganza.
In the opening Basketball match of the tournament the host DPS
Sharjah girls defeated Our Own English High school Sharjah by 53-24
points. Dyutika K of DPS displayed outstanding performance scoring 27
points well assisted by Shweta Bhatia scoring 16 points for the winners
meanwhile Arthi Vinod scored 14 points for OOEHS Sharjah.
The Winchester School Dubai
defeated Our Own High school Al Ain by 15-14 in a very closely contested
girl’s match. Leen scored 12 points for the winners whereas Lamis scored
8 points for Our Own Al Ain.
Last year‘s Runner up Gems Our Own English High School Dubai
trounced the Westminster School Dubai by 50-12 points. Rea Jacob scored
16 points for Gems Our Own.
Boys’ matches:
Host DPS Sharjah defeated Our Own English High School Al Ain by
38- 12 in lack luster Basketball boys’ match.
Girik Kashkari scored 18 points and Jaison Johnny scored 10 points for
DPS while Abdallah scored 5 points for
Our Own English High School
Al Ain.

In the second day of Sundeep Batavia Memorial International Inter School
Basketball tournament for girls, the former runner up of CBSE National
championship, Chettinad School Chennai trounced Gems Modern
Academy Dubai by 44-9 points. Chennai girls
started off well by one sided lead of 15 points each in first two
quarters (30-0). The Indian International player, Srishti who played for
under 16 team India scored 11 points for Chennai and was ably assisted
by Varsha who scored 9 points, Amrusha and Pon Soundarya who scored 8
points each and Bailey Prakash who scored 6 points. Meanwhile Bonifilia
Periera scored 8 points for Gems Modern.
In another exciting match DPS Dubai girls defeated OOEHS Sharjah
by 43-37 points. Priyanka Bhasker scored 17 points and Meher Majeed
scored 18 points for DPS Dxb while Arthi Vinod scored 22 points for
OOEHS.
In another match St. Mary’s Dubai girls trounced Winchester Dubai
by 29-5 points. Rose Jose and Anishka George scored 7 points each for
the winners.
Boys’ Matches
The host DPS Sharjah outplayed NIMS Dubai by 39-24 points.
Captain Harjot Singh scored bulk of the basket for DPS (16 points),
while Akshay Suresh scored 14 points for Nims. Jaison Johny scored 8
points and Mohammed Zain scored 7 points for DPS meanwhile Ravi R scored
12 points and Aadith Krishnadas scored 5 points for Nims Dxb.
St.Mary’s Dubai
defeated Sharjah Indian School by 34- 27. Kyle 14, Jose 9 and Joshua 5
scored for St.Mary’s Dxb while Mohammed Danish 13 and Wajih Abdul 10 for
SIS.
Pristine School Dubai
defeated Gems Modern by 49-23. Leonard scored 31 and Ramon scored 12 for
the winners. Surya scored 7 and Aaryan scored 6 points for Gems Modern.
Westminster Dxb
defeated OOEHS Al Ain by 48-34. John Yani Mendoza scored 19 and Gabriel
Luismanansal scored 12 points for the winners while Mohammed Tarek
scored 11 and Abdallah K scored 10 for Al Ain.
NIMS Sharjah
outplayed Millennium Dxb by 39-28 points. Dhanush 12, Rahul Raju 11 and
Muhammed Nufais 9 points for Nims while Damien Fernandaz 10 and Abdul
Y.M 9 for Millennium Dxb.
In a neck to neck match Our Own
Al Warqa outplayed Our Own School Sharjah by 50-45 points. In the
first two quarter Our Own Sharjah got clear lead against Al Warqa by 9-5
and 20-10 respectively but in the last two quarter Al Warqa
overcame the challenges of Our
Own Sharjah with a margin of 18-4 and 17-12 respectively.

Gems Our Own English H.S Reach Quarter Finals On
the 3rd
day of
Sundeep Batavia Memorial International Inter School Basketball
tournament, last year’s runner up Gems Our Own English High School
reached the quarter final stage of Girls section by winning both of
their league matches. Gems Our Own Dubai trounced Gulf Indian
Dubai by 42-4. Rea Jacob scored 12 points, Dudeja Priyanka scored 8
points and Marwa Mayan Fathima scored 6 points for Gems Our Own Dxb
while Muskan scored 4 points for Gulf Indian Dxb. In
the boys’ category, Our Own H.S Al Warqa posted their second win
over Gulf Indian Dxb by 57-16 points in their group. Kiran and Renston
scored 14 each for the winners and was ably assisted by Simon who scored
10, Brandon 8 and Shravan 7. Muhammed Janeesh scored 13 points for Gulf
Indian.
Winchester Dubai
defeated Millennium by 48-29. Satya Kulkarni scored bulk of the basket
for Winchester with 22 points. Sharan Kumar and Marlon Malcom assisted
with 7 points each. Reuben Varghese scored 13 points for Millennium. In
an exciting neck to neck match Westminster Dubai defeated NIMS
Dubai by 65-63 points. The outstanding performance by Akshay Suresh who
scored 44 points for NIMS didn’t help them win the match. Johnyani
Mendoza scored 28 and Jan Russel Cervantes 23 for Westminster. In
the girls match, Chettinad Vidyashram Chennai trounced Millennium
School Dxb by 46-13. The top scorers for the Chennai team were Varsha.R
12, Srishti Suren 11, Pon Soundara Lakshmi 10 and Amrusha 7 while Sharon
Tony scored 7 points for Millennium.
In an exciting match St. Mary’s Dxb outplayed Gems Modern Dxb by
65-54. Kyle Mathew scored 27 points and Joshua Andrew scored 18 points
for the winners. Surya Teja Salla scored 16 points, Suraj Sharma 14 and
Harsh Navlani 13 for Gems. |

On
the 4th
day of Sundeep Batavia Memorial International Inter School Basketball
tournament for boys, the defending champions DPS Bangalore
achieved a clean sweep win against Millennium School Dxb by 63-11.
Dheeraj scored 18 points, Aditya 13 and Manish 12 for DPS Bangalore.
OOEHS Al Ain
defeated NIMS Dxb by 47-14. Aiyanna Ponnanna scored bulk of the baskets
for Al Ain with 30 points.
DPS Dubai
outplayed Gulf Indian Dubai by 39-25. Joshua James scored 8 points,
Hanan Nisar, Ishan Showkath and Sharan Sakarla scored 6 points each for
DPS while Karandeep singh scored 21 points for Gulf Indian. In
an exciting neck to neck league match Winchester Dubai defeated
NIMS Sharjah by 65-62 and entered in the quarterfinals.
Tall and energetic Satya Kulkarni
scored bulk of the baskets (34) for the Winchester team and was ably
assisted by Marlon Malcom who scored 14 and Viraaj Lulla who scored 10.
For NIMS Shj, Rahul Raju scored 15 points, Muhammed Nufais 14, Muhammed
Safir 12 and Lou Lou Lavandar 11 points.
Leonard’s smashing performance with 28 points led Pristine School
Dubai to a narrow victory against St. Mary’s Dxb (50-46). Omar and
Michael assisted by scoring 8 points each for Pristine. Meanwhile Kyle
Mathew scored 21 points assisted by Josh Daniel with 16 points for St.
Mary’s.
DPS Sharjah Girls in
Quarter Finals The
host DPS Sharjah reached
quarterfinals by defeating arch rivals DPS Dubai by 47-18 to top in
pool-A . Dyutika K scored bulk of the baskets with 26 points for
the winners well assisted by Captain Shweta Bhatia with 10 points.
Meanwhile Meher Majeed able to break the defense of DPS Sharjah and
scored 17 points.
In another League match St.Mary’s Dubai posted their 2nd win to top the pool by trouncing OOEHS Al Ain by 27-04 and reached the
quarterfinals. Rose Jose scored 11 and Anishka George 10 for St. Mary’s
Dxb.
The Millennium Dubai
reached the
quarterfinals by
defeating Gems Modern Academy Dubai by 24-15. Vedasamhita scored 11
points and Roxanne Varela scored 5 for the winners while Bonifila
Periera scored 6 points for Gems Modern.

Boys' Quarter Finals:
Defending champions DPS Bangalore reached the semifinals by
defeating St. Mary’s Dxb by 48-21 points. Dheeraj scored 19 points for
the winners.
DPS Dubai defeated DPS Sharjah by 70-40
points. Hanan Nisar scored bulk of the points (29) for the winners.
The Westminster Dxb outplayed Our Own Al Warqa by 77-62 points.
John Vani Mendoza scored bulk of the baskets with 35 points.
Pristine Dubai outplayed Winchester Dxb by
51-42 points. Leonard scored 23 points and Ramon 20 for the winners.
Patrik scored 15 points for Winchester.
Girls' Quarter Finals:
DPS Sharjah defeated The Millennium by
39-16 points. Dyutika scored
13 points, Shweta Bhatia 10 and Vanshika Agarwal 8 for the winners.
Gems Our Own Dubai trounced Winchester Dubai by
39-8 points. Reshma Tomy scored 16 points and Rea Jacob 13 for winners.
St. Mary’s Dubai defeated Westminster Dubai by
27-12. Rose Jose scored 11 points for the winners.
Chettinad Vidyashram Chennai trounced DPS Dubai by
55-10 points. Amrusha scored 18 points for Chennai.

Host DPS Sharjah will clash
with Chettinad Vidyashram Chennai
in the Girls’ final of the 10th Sundeep Batavia Memorial
International Inter School Basketball tournament being organized by DPS
Sharjah. In the Boys’ finals, defending champions
DPS Bangalore will meet DPS
Dubai.
In the first Semifinal match, host DPS Sharjah defeated St. Mary’s
Catholic school Dubai by 47-18 points. The visitor Chettinad Vidyashram
Chennai outplayed Gems Our Own English High School Dubai by 53-20 in the
second semifinals to meet the host in finals. Vedika Sanjay of DPS Sharjah dominated the
game against the St.Mary’s with frequent interceptions and rebound
collections and top scored with 17 points well assisted by Dyutika K who
scored 14 points and Shweta Bhatia who scored 11 points mostly from 3
pointers. Chennai girls dominated the match against Gems Our Own in
offense and defense with fast break counter attacks after rebound
collections and interceptions. Varsha scored 17 points, Amrusha and P
Soundarya Lakshmi scored 8 points each for Chennai.
DPS Bangalore
trounced Westminster Dubai by 77-23 in the first Boys’ semifinal while
DPS Dubai defeated Pristine Private School Dubai by 55-37.
Aditya.S splendid performance with 33 points helped the defending
champions DPS Bangalore for an easy win against Westminster ably
supported by Abhishek who scored 9. DPS Bangalore excelled in both
defensive and offensive play and utilized most of the free throws and
under baskets.
Experienced DPS Dubai overcame the challenges made by Pristine Dubai
with collective team work whereas Pristine concentrated mainly on their
tall Leonard who top scored with 24 points in the match. Sharan Sakaria
scored 14 points, Ishan Showkath 12, Samar Gilani 8 and Hanan Nisar 6
for DPS Dubai. |

In an exciting Boys’ final match, DPS Dubai pipped the
defending champions DPS Bangalore by 67 – 63. Both teams were exchanging
the lead throughout the match and at one stage of the last quarter, the
Bangalore team was leading by 9 points, but few miss passes by the
Bangalore team in the last 2 minutes and timely interceptions by the MVP
Hanan Nisar of DPS Dubai tilted the match to their favour. The continued
and determined efforts of hard working Hanan Nisar scored 41 points to
help DPS Dubai for their maiden Championship victory. Ishan Showkath
excelled in Interceptions, ball handling while Sharan Sakaria scored 18
points mainly from fast break and under baskets for the winners. For the
Bangalore side the tall and energetic Dheeraj excelled in defensive and
offensive rebounds and was able to score 19 points, assisted by Aditya. J.
who scored 18 points, Abhishek who scored 14 and Aditya .S. who scored 9 points.
The visitors Chettinad
Vidyashram Chennai with an international and 3
Tamil Nadu junior state players
lifted the Girls’ title of Basketball by defeating the host DPS
Sharjah by 41 – 28. In the lackluster first half, the experienced Chennai
girls dominated the game and secured a lead of 18 points mainly through
the exemplary performance of International player Srishti Suren and Tamil Nadu
state player Varsha R. But in the second half, the host DPS Sharjah
fought back by applying full court pressure and dominated the game
mainly by Captain Shweta Bhatia’s 3 point shots. DPS girls lead the last
quarter by 17 – 9 but the last surge was not enough to snatch the match
from the experienced Chennai girls. For the winners Player of the final
match Varsha. R. scored bulk of the baskets with 21 points ably assisted
by the Junior Indian International Srishti Suren who scored 12 points.
For DPS, Shweta Bhatia scored 14 points, mainly from three
pointers, well assisted by Dyutika who scored 9 points.
