IHSMUN

A delegation of 12 students attended the IHSMUN hosted by the India High School, Dubai from the 10th of December to the 12th of December. The opening ceremony kick started with a dance, which depicted the harmonious relationship that we Indians have with this country, UAE, which has become our home away from home. The Chief Guest, a consultant to the Indian Embassy, Dubai, acknowledged the prodigious platform that a Model United Nations provides us students with. After the declaration of the meet, we had tea and were directed towards our committees. The committees started off with an enthusiasm and vigor that lasted for the three days to come. By lunch, GA6 and SPR, had already faced their first crisis, which directly involved the delegates of China and Pakistan which were Manya and Saira Banu, respectively. The skill and wit exhibited by the delegates was commendable as they were able to turn the tables and win over the other delegates. The other committees had heated debates and arguments in relation with their first agenda and many even passed a resolution for it. The first day was the beginning of the remarkable journey of our delegates.

The following day, the 12th of December, was the most critical of our MUN journey. There was a joint crisis, with GA1, GA6 and Committee ‘X’. The atmosphere in the Security Council was also nerve wracking. All this led to the presidential statements given by the President of China, Girik, which stated that China doesn’t recognize Turkey as a sovereign state anymore. Even the Defense Minister of Pakistan, Arsalaan, threatened war against Saudi Arabia. Also, there was a heated debate between the President of Venezuela and the Finance Minister of China, Nabiha, which surfaced the truth about the Venezuelan corruption. More crises were announced in SPR, that targeted the delegate of Pakistan, Saira Banu, however, again with her research and wit she overcame the crises with flying colors. The second day proved to be fundamental for the strengthening of the stance of the various delegates. The day ended with lots of fun and frolic in the gala evening held at the football field of Indian Int’l School.

The final day of the thoroughly invigorating session was the 12th of December. The resolutions on the second agenda got passed in every committee and the delegates from DPS Sharjah were sponsors to all of them. The principal of IHS of grades 9 and 10, was the Chief Guest of the closing ceremony. A soothing duet was performed by the boys of IHS that enlivened the ceremony. Out of the 12 delegates that went from our school, 8 of us won accolades. President of China, Girik Kashakari, Finance Minister of China, Nabiha Naaz, Delegate of China, Rohan Kapur, Delegate of Pakistan, Saira Banu; won the best delegate awards from their respective committees. Manya Walia, Law Minister of China, Rohan Chacko, delegate of Pakistan; won Honorable Mention awards while Manav Jha, Minister of Foreign Affairs, China won a Special Mention. Arsalaan Kidwai, Defense Minister of Pakistan, won Best Position Paper, and was also recognized as verbal mention.

All In all, this was one of the most successful MUN conferences that DPS Sharjah has participated in, as not only did we bring back accolades but successfully turned it into a holistic learning experience.
