Problem Solving Assessment for Grade IX and XI

Dear Parents,

 

It is a widely acknowledged fact that research and analytical skills, ability to apply basic concepts of different subjects, solve application based problems in Mathematics and Science, comprehend and analyse written texts and effective communication are the skills which ensure success in higher studies and professional areas. These dimensions of 21st Century life skills will greatly assist learners in acquiring higher order thinking skills such as Problem Solving and Decision Making.

 

It is in this connection that the Board is planning to initiate a `Problem Solving Assessment’ (CBSE-PSA) for students of Class XI from the second term of this session 2012-13.

 

The features of the `Problem Solving Assessment’ (CBSE-PSA) are as follows: -

1.     It is mandatory for all students of Class IX and Class XI to appear in Problem Solving Assessment (PSA).

 

2.     There is no specific syllabus for `Problem Solving Assessment. It will assess the Life Skills relating to following areas:-

·        Quantitative Reasoning

·        Qualitative Reasoning

·        Language Conventions

 

3.     The Life Skills shall be assessed within the following domains:

·        Quantitative : which includes the reasoning seen in the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences

·        Qualitative : which includes the kinds of reasoning found in Mathematics and Science

·        Language Conventions : which includes different aspects of written communication (e.g. grammar, vocabulary etc.)

 

4.     Distribution of 60 items is as follows

For Class XI :

5.     The students will get a certificate on the `Problem Solving Assessment’ by July, 2013.

 

6.     There will be no separate time tables or periods for teaching or practice of PSA in schools.

        7.     The Question Paper containing OMR Answer Sheet shall be supplied by the Board.

       8.     Conduct of Examinations for Class IX and Class XI:

It is compulsory for all students enrolled in the school in Class IX and Class XI for academic session 2012-13 to appear in Problem Solving Assessment (PSA).

 

9.     The examination shall be held on 16th Feb 2013 (Saturday) from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

 

10. The examination shall be conducted in the school.

11. Candidates shall appear against their Registration No.
