NMSMUN 2022 - Navigating International Challenges and Crises by Strengthening Global Partnerships

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of our dreams.” - Eleanor Roosevelt

On the 1st and 2nd of October 2022, a team of 12 delegates from DPS Sharjah took part in NMSMUN, organized by the GEMS New Millennium School, Al Khail. The theme of this year’s conference was “Navigating International Challenges and Crises by Strengthening Global Partnerships''. A total of 280 students took part in the conference, coming from various backgrounds and schools. With a lot of excitement, students participated in two days of intense debate, policymaking, and crisis resolution.

On the first day, the students settled down in their committees and gave their opening speeches and formed alliances. The competition was tough, with students competing with the most experienced delegates in the region while maintaining their country’s stance in committees of sometimes more than 40 delegates. Various agendas were discussed, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the increase in organ smuggling, the illicit sale of arms, the regulation of cryptocurrencies, the increasingly biased nature of the press, and the world order as of 1920.

Day 2 involved dedicated resolution-making, with students writing policy papers to solve the agenda at hand and coming up with realistic solutions appropriate for their nation, all while being politically involved to attract votes for their resolution. The committees also engaged in a crisis, where the most passionate speeches and directives were discussed.

The Model UN Committee of the school is ecstatic to announce that the school has won the BEST DELEGATION AWARD among the 28 schools participating. Of the 12 dipsites who took part in the event, 8 won awards, with 4 of the students winning Best Delegate.
