The 19th cycle of the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) Public-Speaking Competition held on 22nd and 23rd of April 2019, has provided a remarkable platform for our students to showcase their big ideas which contributed great awareness, acknowledgement and earnest responsibility towards the environment. Students in both senior and sub-senior categories have made commendable performances which led to acclaims and special recognitions in a big gathering of more than 60 schools from all over the U.A.E
With an overwhelming 151 points from each of the senior and sub-senior category, the teams collectively reached to the 4th position in the list of over 80 schools. The senior team: Afeef Abdurahman, Arkadeep Das, Mahathi G., Parnika Chaturvedi and Shaun James procured 3rd place out of 28 schools.
The sub- senior team: Shrey Kohli, Ramisha Arora, Ipsa Manhas, Adrija Mukherjee and Armaan Farooqui secured 6th place out of 65 schools.
Delhi Private School, Sharjah has gained an honourable place in the hall of fame of this prestigious event which was held at Knowledge Village, Dubai.
This year’s EEG fostered themes such as Food Waste Management, Achieving Zero Hunger and Healthcare and Sustainability. Our sub senior Team presented their views on sustainability and its importance in healthcare. This team with persistent research on innovative techniques put forth an informative presentation which gained them recognition among other competent participants.
The senior team showcased an array of activities depicting the theme: Artificial Intelligence and environment. This presentation of students captured the attention of the audience through an interactive session wherein students made a good rapport with the gathering inclusive of the judges through the quiz rounds. The team presented two posters designed by Sonal Misra (12O) to the Chairperson of EEG. She was so inspired by the work and promised our students that it would be put up on the walls of her office. A vivacious performance was displayed by the team inclusive of an original poem penned by one of the team members which was recited aloud. This took the show to its paramount followed by loud applause from the audience.
The dipsites breathed a proud moment at the award ceremony receiving the honour with a special word of appreciation from the judge who said, “The school stands out in their presentation with the students’ great expression of ideas.”
This event is, and has always been an amazing way to incorporate collaborative learning and a spirit of positive competitiveness in the attitude of all the students. EEG Public-Speaking Competition 2019 was a great learning experience for all our participants. This programme has helped DPS students realize that our planet will remain unfit, if we believe that someone else will save it.
