IPHONE 4.0-THE VERDICT
Well guys, it’s here. One of the best kept secrets of one of the most innovative companied around. The IPhone 4. Some call it the next thing in technology, other call it a quantum leap into the future world.
I, however, strongly disagree. Two days after its release, I was still trying to figure out how this this so called “next-generation” phone was different than any other IPhone on the market. So, not to be harsh on Apple, I compared it to its closest predecessor, the IPhone 3gS. The results were surprising.
Not only did it have 1.7% more battery life (which now comes to a total of 23 mins and 3 secs) but also it was a whole 0.0012 cm thinner! Wow! Isn’t that the greatest achievement? Sorry Apple, but to please anyone other than your 3 and half die-hard fans, you’ll have to offer something much more than that.
Well then. Let’s see how well this phone does as a stand-alone, independent one.
It has a front facing camera for those really important video-calls. It offers a best-in class pixel count. It comes with a pre-installed version of the latest Apple mobility OS. The iOS 1.4. Next, it features an inbuilt song-arrangement software. The usability of this phone will be tremendously boosted by the fact of the huge collection of apps supported by it.
However, let’s see some of the not-so-rosy points about this phone. This phone cannot multi-task. Yes, you got that right. Now let’s assume you are listening to your favorite tunes of the IPhone. Now you want to check your mail on safari. But no, you’ll have to first stop the music and then only you can open any other app. How frustrating and disappointing is that. And all this after paying around 150$ more for this than a top-of the range android phone.
Hold on. This is not over yet. One basic question. What is a phone used for? Communication i.e. making calls. Well you will be surprised to know that IPhone fails in that department as well. Yes, apparently, to get a respectable signal on your fancy new baby, you need to hold it a particularly awkward manner. To be honest with you, even the Nokia 1110, which is available for a combined total of 100 AED will allow you to make and receive calls, no matter which way you hold it in. Hence the choice of buying this phone is completely yours, however, please do so before next summer as you never know when the next one may pop up!
