Hat-trick of Green Accolades

(SEAA 2014)

This year’s World Environment Day, 5th June 2014, was a red letter day in the annals of DPS Sharjah.

Our school won the Sharjah Environment Awareness Award (SEAA2014) by Bee'ah (the Environment Company), securing the second place in the Science Project. The Project was titled “Love Food, Hate Waste”, wherein the students carried out online surveys and campaigns in the food court of various malls.

Philip Mathew, Newel, Irfan Ahmad, Afnan Abdul Rehman and Shria Sadhu of Grade 12 and Maryum Siddiqui, Vysakh Satheesh, Manu Rajesh, Arushi Madan, Priyanka Jain, Shreya Sinha and Ivakshi Seth  and Sanket Khanwani of Grade11 were involved in this project, which was coordinated by Ms.Anjum Hasan, Environment Coordinator. The school was awarded a cheque of Dhs.15000. The Award was received by Ms. Anjum and Headmaster Mr. Rajeev Chandy along with the students.

DPS Sharjah was also awarded the Second place in the Interschool Recycling Competition, which is the maiden venture of Bee’ah, launched in September 2013.The Interschool Recycling Competition was a 9 month long campaign where we managed to collect 12.48tons of mixed recyclables. The only winning school DPS Sharjah received a cash Prize of Dhs.10, 000. Not only the students but also the parents and teachers equally contributed and supported the campaign.  It is worth mentioning that Gouri Saraswathy of Grade 5C alone contributed 135kgs of Paper whereas Anaita Dumasia of Grade 11 contributed 100Kgs. They will be recognized in the school assembly for their efforts in making our recycling campaign award worthy. Mr.Rahul Taneja from the P.E.Department and Mr.Raheem, the ancillary supervisor along with Ms.Anjum did a commendable job in coordinating the entire process from collection to sending the recyclables to Bee’ah.

Arushi Madan, Grade 11 won the first place in Outstanding Student category  and Shreya Gupta Grade10  second place due to their exemplary efforts, contributions and achievements in the area of environment. They were awarded with a prestigious trophy, certificate of appreciation and Dhs10000 each.

Our Eco guide, our Principal Mrs.Vandana Marwaha congratulated the entire team on this fantastic achievement and motivated them to continue and keep up their endeavour.
