DIPSITE HONOURED WITH INTERNATIONAL DIANA AWARD

Arushi Madan, an eco-champ of Grade 12 from DPS Sharjah has been endowed with the “International Diana Award”, which is a prestigious honour that endeavours to appreciate and celebrate the work which young people make to society - especially those who are young ambassadors, young leaders, young humanitarians, fund raisers, eco-campaigners, peer mentors, sports leaders, and those who inspire others as Diana, Princess of Wales. She scooped this award for her devotion to protect and conserve the natural environment. A Diana Award winner receives a prestigious national award and a certificate signed by the British Prime Minister, Rt Hon David Cameron MP, and a lapel pin or trophy. They also receive an honour to attend events hosted by Prince Harry and William.

 

British Council UAE Director Marc Jessel congratulated Arushi on this momentous achievement.

 

On her splendid accomplishment, Arushi was invited to Indian Embassy, Abu Dhabi by Ms Neeta Bhushan -Deputy Chief of Mission & Head of Chancery, Indian Embassy and wife of Consul General Mr.Anurag Bhushan. Ms.Bhushan appreciated Arushi’s work towards environment protection, applauded her as role model for today’s youth and encouraged her to continue working for such causes.

Arushi is active in her environment endeavours both within the school and outside the school. Arushi is the President of youth community group “Students for the Earth” .She has been conducting various environment campaigns, event, activities and awareness sessions for various segments of society like she did an awareness session exclusively for labourers and one exclusively for women as she believes “If you educate a man, you educate an individual but if you educate a woman, you educate two generations”. She also set up a waste segregation system and Energy saving system for her building. She believes in actions more than words and works at grassroots level and sets examples for others to follow. She has been a source of inspiration to many youngsters.

 

Arushi also won in 2013 prestigious UAE National award “Sheikh Hamdan Award for distinguished student” , Outstanding Environment Student award SEAA (Sharjah Environment Awareness Award) in 2014 , “Green Star UAE” title and award in 2014 and  the best Environment Ambassador award by Tunza Eco-generation. Earlier in Feb 2014, Arushi was invited at Seoul, South Korea as a representative of UAE for Global Youth Eco Leadership Summit. Last week she won Sharjah award for educational excellence.  This significant achievement of hers is hugely appreciated in media, all across various national newspapers like “The National “ , “Emirates 24/7” , “The Gulf Today” and Indian regional language newspaper.
