Sharjah Sustainability Award - Green Schools
Out of the box green ideas have made the difference
Delhi Private School, Sharjah
under the leadership and guidance of our Principal Mrs Vandana Marwaha,
bagged the first Sharjah Sustainable Award instituted by the
Sharjah Government and Environment and Protected
Area Authority, Sharjah. The objective of this award is to
entrench the principles of sustainable development in schools and to
promote good environmental culture amongst students and staff. Delhi
Private School, Sharjah participated in the category for the
Environmental Sustainable Project.
The submitted projects were closely related to the “Area of protecting
the wildlife environment and preserving its biological diversity”. Three
months of brainstorming, research and compilation by a group of
dedicated students and teachers led by Ms.Anjum Hasan, the Project
Coordinator, culminated in the form of the following:
1) An Innovative Modern Idea
- ‘Tag Fish! Save Fish! Save
Marine Life! :
Choose
Your Fish Wisely
-
This campaign was launched by the students to raise awareness within the
community
about the importance of biodiversity and
importance of protecting endangered species of fishes viz. Hamour and
Sherry, which are on the verge of extinction. |

School

2) An Innovative Short Film
- ‘Be the seed of change’:
How landfills can be turned beneficial -
We live in the beautiful country UAE and our school is located in the
beautiful city – Sharjah. Yet we witness the ecological destruction of
our surrounding caused by uncontrolled dumping of waste. The old
landfill near our school motivated us to take up the germ of an idea, to
redevelop it into an area where interdependent flora and fauna can
thrive again. |
|
3) An Innovative Poster
-
‘Save Nature’ :
To capture in our canvas the beauty of
nature in all its glory students painted an innovative poster (A1 size)
to convey the theme. |
|
The project submission was followed by a field visit to our school by a panel of judges from the EPAA and Sharjah Department of Culture. Our school projects on sustainability were shown to the panel. | |
