EMIRATES ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP

TIME TO ACT: YOUTH AND CLIMATE CHANGE –A WORKSHOP.

A five member team from DPS Sharjah attended a workshop organized by the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) on 20th October 2010 in Rashid Boys’ School, Dubai. The team included Shalini, Samuel, Farmaan, Abel and Divya of grades 11 and 12 accompanied by Ms. Aruna . The topic of the workshop was Youth and Climate Change.

Ms. Habiba Al Marashi, Chairperson of Emirates Environmental Group addressed the students urging them to understand the urgency of the present situation.

The chief speakers were from the UK, and spoke about the causes of climate change, its impact, effects and the present scenario of the world. The discussions revolved around climate change and the role of the youth.

Several documentaries, presentations and shocking statistics relating to climate change made the topic highly relevant.

Biodiversity and its importance was also discussed in detail.

Several fun activities made the session interactive and entertaining. A keen listening ear was available as the members were keen on interacting with the students and listening to the views and ideas of the youth. Fine discussions ensued and provided us an insight into the ideas of students our age.

Not only was it a good learning experience but we also had a good time interacting and making friends with students from different schools and nationalities.

All in all, it was a fun and awakening experience. Any student who comes across such an opportunity should certainly grab it and make the best of it.
